 ROBINA HISTORY

The area occupied by Robina was once farmland, with many lagoons, paper bark and casuarina trees. When Arthur Earle came to the Gold Coast in 1964 he purchased about 3000 acres of land between Nerang and Mudgeeraba. He dozed a track through the middle and the track became a busy road that now forms part of today's Pacific Highway.

In December 1980, Arthur Earle and Singapore developer Robin Loh purchased a 1658 hectare site. The name Robina had been used by Mr Loh for a number of projects in South East Asia, so that's where the name came from. An urban planner was commissioned to develop the master plan for Robina. Flood prone land was built up from fill dug from artificial lakes. By 1981, the first stage of housing blocks were on the market.

Comprising a total area of 1850 hectares, Robina is strategically located in the geographic centre of the Gold Coast. Robina has become the largest privately-owned, master planned residential community in Australia with 20,000 living in Robina as at 2000. Robina is located between the major north-south arterial routes of the Pacific Highway and the Gold Coast Highway and is only a 20 minute drive from Coolangatta airport. It is only one hour's drive from Brisbane International Airport.

 ROBINA LIONS CLUB HISTORY

The Robina Lions Club was the 1517th Club to be formed in Australia, being sponsored by the Lions Club of Broadbeach-Mermaid.

The Club was formed in 1988 with both male and female Members. The Club received its Charter in January 1989 with the first female Charter President in Australia, Lion Toula Singer.

The Club has sponsored two Leo Clubs, a school based Club at the Robina State High School in 1997 and a Community based Club, now affiliated with the Griffith University Student Guild, in 2002.

The mainstream activities are fundraising to support a wide range of Lions projects at Club, District, Multiple District and at International level, as well as a diverse range of charitable organisations providing health and welfare services to the community.

The Club also supports many youth programmes such as the Youth Of The Year Quest, the Youth Exchange Project, the Miss Personality Quest, Encouragement Awards to students at Local Schools and the Youth Insearch Project.

The Lions Club of Robina has a very proud tradition of service to the Community.
